- CamOnApp Studio supports two formats of 3D files:
.fbx for static and animated models,
.obj for static models.
- The image file format for the textures is 32 bit .tga, whether or not it has transparencies.
- At the moment of incorporating the 3D models and their respective images to Studio, they must be compressed in a .zip file.
Instructions when creating a 3D model, skeleton and animation
The model must not exceed 15,000 polygons, contain only triangles, have UV map made and must be optimized, before incorporating a skeleton (Freeze Transformations, Place model pivot in the center of the world and Delete History).
After creating the skeleton and before adhering to the model, the articulations of the same must be oriented to the world (the axes of x, y, z of them must follow those of the world).
The animations must run at 30 fps and must be “baked” to the skeleton.
Instructions when exporting .fbx
Select all the articulations of the model’s skeleton and all the geometry of the model.
Then select in the File menu and then Export Selection.
When opening the window, choose the type of format. The same will be “FBX export”.
In the options, make sure to export as follows:
General Options: Default file extensions.
Geometry: Smooth Mesh, Referenced Assets Content and Triangulate are selected.
Animation: is selected Animation.
If you have more than one animation: under Bake Animation choose Bake Animation and the specific frames that this animation lasts.
Under Deformed Models: Deformed Models, Skins and Blend Shapes.
If you have textures, under Embed Media: Embed Media.
Connections: Include Children, Input Connections.
Under Advanced Options:
Scale Factor 1.0: Automatic.
Axis Conversion: Up Axis Y.
UI: Show Warning Manager, General Log Data.
FBX File Format:
Version: FBX 2011.
Name the object under File name.
Press Export Selection.
Clarification: There is a possibility that at the time of exporting, Maya indicates that there are errors. They are usually not serious and do not affect the successful operation of the object in CamOnApp Studio.
Instructions when exporting .obj
Select the geometry of the object or objects that you want to export.
Choose from the File menu and then Export Selection.
When opening the window, choose the type of format. The same will be OBJexport.
Name the object in File name.
Select Export Selection.
Polygon limit per object / experience
15,000 polygons max. in total (the sum of all the objects)
15,000 polygons max. by object.
Low poly triangulated.
.tga: RGB / RGBA, with or without RLE compression, 24/32 bits, 256x256px.
There is no concept of lighting within the augmented reality experience when reproduced from the app. To obtain lighting effects in the models that are used in the composition, they must be applied over the textures (.tga).
Weight object / experience
We recommend that the weight of the total experience in CamOnApp does not exceed 4MB. Therefore, it is important to optimize 3D models and textures, to achieve an acceptable weight / image quality.
